give someone a much longer leash 사람에게 더 긴 개 목줄을 준다?

오늘 WSJ 기사를 읽다가 너무 재밌는 표현을 봐서 함께 알아보려고 합니다. 

"But investors have given Facebook’s company a much longer leash."

투자자들이 페이스북의 회사에 훨씬 긴 목줄을 줘 왔다.

                                            (훨씬 더 많은 자유를 허용해 왔다.)

leash 

: a piece of rope, chain, etc, tied to an animal or a pet, especially to a dog at its collar when taking it for a walk:
Example: Please keep your dog on a leash when in this area.

 

leash /  개한테 긴 목줄을 채우면 더 자유롭게 돌아다닐 수 있는 것처럼, 비유적으로는 "더 많은 자유"나 "더 큰 융통성"을 의미해요.

 

이해하기 쉽게 정리하면:
